WebA hussif is a simple roll-up sewing kit. They were common throughout the mid 18th and 19th centuries, and into the first half of the 20th. They were standard issue for British soldiers until after WWII and there are at least a few stories of soldiers carrying them in the Vietnam War. Many Civil War soldiers carried them and sailors too.
